Public preview
Approved domains is in public preview. You can enable it for your organization yourself, without requesting access.
Before you begin
You will need permission to manage organization settings and the ability to add a TXT record to your domain’s DNS settings.Approved domains are available for organizations that do not use SAML SSO or SCIM. For organizations using an identity provider, follow the SAML SSO setup guide.
How it works
When a user first creates their ClickHouse Cloud account, ClickHouse checks their email domain against approved domains. Each matching organization applies its configured enrollment method and default roles.
Enrollment applies only to new accounts. To add an existing user, send an invitation.
The email domain must match exactly. For example,
example.com matches user@example.com, but not user@team.example.com. Add and verify subdomains separately.
If multiple organizations approve the same domain, each applies its own enrollment settings. Users added automatically to multiple organizations can choose which one to open.
Add and verify a domain
1
Open approved domains
In the ClickHouse Cloud console, open your organization’s settings. Under Approved domains, click Add domain.
2
Add your domain
Enter your email domain, such as
example.com, and click Add.An organization can have up to 20 domains, including domains awaiting verification. Public and disposable email domains, such as gmail.com, cannot be approved.3
Configure enrollment and default roles
For the domain, select an Auto-enrollment method and Default role.New domains default to Send an invite and the Member role. Enrollment starts after verification succeeds. You can select one or more roles, including custom roles. The list shows only roles you are allowed to assign. Roles that can manage the organization, such as Admin, cannot be selected. If a selected role is deleted or can no longer be assigned, it is removed from the domain. If no selected roles remain, new users get the Member role.
4
Add the DNS record
Create a TXT record with your DNS provider using the values shown in the console:
Add this record alongside your existing TXT records.
5
Verify the domain
Return to ClickHouse Cloud and click the refresh icon beside the unverified domain. When verification succeeds, its status changes to Verified.DNS changes may take time to propagate. If verification does not succeed immediately, wait and try again.
Update enrollment settings
Open Approved domains and change the domain’s Default role or Auto-enrollment setting. Changes save automatically and apply to future enrollments. To update an existing member’s roles, follow Manage user role assignments.Remove a domain
Open Approved domains and click the trash icon beside the domain. Removing a domain stops future enrollment through that domain. Existing members and invitations are retained. Remove members or cancel invitations separately if needed.Limitations
- Enrollment runs only when a user first creates their account. Existing users are not added retroactively.
- Users who leave or are removed from an organization are not automatically added again when they sign in.
- Existing members and unexpired invitations are not duplicated.
- Organization membership restrictions still apply.
- Configuring SAML SSO or enabling SCIM stops approved-domain enrollment.
Troubleshooting
Approved domains is missing or cannot be edited
The section is hidden for organizations using SAML SSO. To edit approved domains, you need permission to manage organization settings.Domain verification fails
Check that the TXT record is on the correct domain and matches the current value displayed in the console. Allow time for DNS propagation, then retry. If the console reports an outdated token, replace the verification value with the current value shown. If the verification request has expired, restart verification.A domain is rejected
Check that the domain is not a public or disposable email domain and that your organization has fewer than 20 verified and unverified domains.A user was not added
Confirm that:- The user is creating a new ClickHouse Cloud account.
- Their email domain exactly matches a verified domain.
- The organization does not use SAML SSO or SCIM.
- The organization is permitted to invite members.
